Legendary Fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa passed away today at age 77. He is best known for his body-hugging dresses, which were worn by everyone — including Naomi Campbell, Madonna and even former first lady Michelle Obama.
Peers and followers within the fashion community admired Alaïa.
Former Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz was quoted as saying “He was the designer’s designer”.
He got his start in 1957 when he moved to Paris and soon started working with Christian Dior. Alaïa started his namesake collection in the 1980’s. He then defined the 1990’s with his iconic body-con dress, as worn by Alicia Silverstone in the iconic movie Clueless.
I am fortunate to own a piece of an amazing craftsmanship; a pair of boots with a cool clasp detailing down the front. I send my condolences to the house, and his family.
Azzedine Alaïa will be revered in fashion community for his iconic style and design, for eternity.
